Shortly before noon on May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide, Tenzing Norgay, became the first people to conquer Mt. Everest. While Hillary received knighthood and worldwide fame, Tenzing earned satisfaction based on the pivotal role he played in helping his partner fulfill his life’s ambition.
